The Body Keeps The Score, Bessel Van Der Kolk, 2015

How Children Succeed, Paul Tough, 2012

This ground-breaking book by Paul Tough examines how non-academic "character" skills - things like grit and curiosity - help young people overcome challenges and be resilient. His work has kick-started a more robust discussion about how we help kids develop these skills just like we would any other area of competence.

Check it out if you're interested in:

  • Exploring how non-academic skills are crucial in the lifelong success of all humans, especially those who have had a tough start to life.
  • How resilience is built in young people, even when their initial experiences are not all positive.
