Sports-Based youth Development Coach Certification Program
We offer the nation’s first certification in sports-based youth development (SBYD), emphasizing the skills that coaches need to create great athletes and great kids. Each module can run as a full day or be divided into smaller pieces.
Level 1 - SBYD Coaching Skills
Coaches are exposed to the foundational theories of sports-based youth development. They learn relationship-building skills, explore how to build a positive culture, and practice group management, instruction, and reflection techniques.
LEvel 2 - COMMUNITY CONTEXT
Coaches learn to understand the community context and how it impacts youth participation and behavior. They leave being able to use a set of trauma-sensitive coaching skills.
Level 3 - SPORTS-LIFE CONNECTIONS
Coaches explore ways to structure their practice to achieve specific, intentional youth outcomes. They focus on creating a space safe from bullying, increasing levels of moderate to vigorous physical activity, and encouraging youth to take healthy risks.
Level 4 - BUILDING HEALTHY COMPETITION
Competition, a core piece of the youth sport experience, can sometimes be seen as either all good or all bad. In this level, coaches examine the components of competition -and identify ways to ensure that this is a healthy, skill-building part of their program. Young people may experience stress and fear around competition, but when it is intentionally managed they can instead use these environments to build valuable skills for handling high stakes moments in sport and life.
